Mel was super communicative and helpful throughout our time. We had no problems staying here and it was the perfect alternative when we couldn’t find campgrounds open in Big Bend. The stars were amazing and the space was a great introduction to camping for my wife who had never been before. We didn’t try the showers but all the other amenities were great additions to our trip. Would recommend!

Loved our time staying at Mel’s place. Instructions for finding our campsite were extremely helpful. Amenities provided were above and beyond what was in the description. Tent was very clean and comfortable and Mel has clearly thought of the little things that makes peoples experience that much better like hand wipes in the tent, clear instructions in the bathroom, battery powered lights in the facilities. A very strong option if you’re looking to stay close the park and still want to camp.

Melanie is an exceptional host; thoughtful, proactive, great communicator, and an inspired decorator! Her cottage in the desert was among the highlights of our stay in the Big Bend area of West Texas. It was convenient to the National and State Park, close to Terlingua’s restaurants and amenities while at the same time in a quiet and peaceful desert setting. It’s a glamping cottage with a laid back vibe. We enjoyed mornings with coffee on the covered front porch watching the sun rise over the Chisos mountains. Great host, great setting, great glamping accommodations!

My husband and I really enjoyed Mel’s Place! The instructions were incredibly easy to follow and we were able to find the place with zero issues. We loved the surroundings and everything was exactly as described! It was a relaxing spot and pretty close to the park, so that’s a huge win!

The outhouse is clean as is the solar shower! The campsites are easy to navigate. They are tidy with no trash at all. Each side features a picnic table, fire ring with cooking grate, and a nice double sized freestanding hammock for stargazing! The hammock is wonderful thanks to the beautiful views of the location of Mel’s campsites. You are surrounded by desert and hills. Sunsets and sunrises are beautiful. Stargazing is spectacular, again, the hammock was an awesome treat! It is incredibly quiet and peaceful to stay here. From the gas station in Terilinga, you’re only about 5 minutes driving slow into the desert to the campsites. Mel gives very good and clear instructions, which are not complicated anyway. Overall, the fantastic value, especially considering we stayed during spring break window. I will definitely use her campsites again!

There are so many great things to say, how can I possibly list them all! Incredible location, just 2 minutes from town but it sure doesn’t feel like it (and what a fantastic little town it is), gorgeous views, beautiful home (the pictures can’t even do it justice), complete silence outdoors that some people may have never experienced before, extremely comfortable bed, all of the amenities and supplies you need and then some, kind and thoughtful host. What Mel has created here on her property to share with all of us is something truly rare and unforgettable. P.S. the mountains really do “change color!”

We loved our stay at Mel’s place! The location was private, serene, & arguably the best option if not staying inside the park. We couldn’t have been closer to Big Bend Boating and Hiking company which made reporting bright and early for our all-day kayaking trip super easy. The beds offered such a gift of comfort after long days exploring Big Bend. We got caught in some extreme winds, but Mel was super responsive and made sure we had what we needed throughout our stay. Just a few minutes from Terlingua Ghost Town and ten from the Big Bend National Park entrance.

This place was amazing; so charming, cozy and in a perfect location. I loved feeling like I was away from it all surrounded by beauty while also being a short drive to the park entrance, gas station, and everything Terlingua has to offer. Everything was clean, set up well and Mel was prepared and always there to help with everything if needed. I already miss my mornings on the front porch! I will be back without a doubt!

An excellent location for dark sky photography. Nice clean area, with beautiful views all around. Quick access to Terlingua, BBNP and restaurants/groceries. Mel was so very accommodating for a shipment we needed to receive priority mail, which we greatly appreciated, and the provided tent and bedding was greatly appreciated by my son (who turned it into a fort for play). Overall an excellent experience. Would love to see running water and electricity options added in the future, if the host is open to adding.

Beautiful stay just outside of BBNP! Camping out at Mel’s place was extremely worth it and the campfire and hammock made it so amazing to watch the stars at night. Our host was very helpful and responsive. I would 100% recommend to anyone who is looking to make their adventure to the park that much more enjoyable!
